I have enough material from the Gypsy Caravan, Renaissance Faire and model shoot to carry me a few days. Today we sample the big flea market. Since it was for the benefit of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, it is appropriate to show some musical merchandise. I can't play any of this stuff. I took violin lessons for five years when I was a kid and never got beyond causing others aural pain. Very good ear, very bad hands. Klutz would be a simpler description. Now I just listen, and with pleasure
This statue has been featured on STL DPB before. Aristide Maillol's La Rivière is one of my favorite works in Citygarden. I just liked the light and color as darkness approached. If the image looks a little disorienting, imagine rotating it 90 degrees clockwise. That's how it was shot and you can understand how the lamp sits in the water ... Lots to shoot in The Lou over our Memorial Day long weekend. Once again, the faeries (I kid you not) invited me to come shoot at the St Louis Renaissance
If you've been to a wedding, you're familiar with the string quartet. What you may not know is that the string quartet was not created to perform tasteful renditions of Journey's "Faithfully," but to provide music in places too cramped for an entire symphony orchestra couldn't fit. The string quarte ...
David Robertson and the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra keep the evening's entertainment a secret for this annual tradition. Surprises in previous years have included live scores for silent movies and popcorn, special guests and fireworks -- the latter not actually in the hall, but outside in Grand ...
Our Grand Center arts and entertainment district includes Powell Hall, home of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra; the Fox Theater, where the big Broadway shows play; the Sheldon Concert Hall, an acoustic gem; the Black Rep theater; the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts; our Contemporary Art Museum; the local public radio and television stations, and more. It's where Dancing In The Street was held last weekend. There's a lot going on ... However, here and there on Grand Boulevard are these sad
We stand on the cusp of a new season for the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra ... So, are we to view the next eight months of performances as a mountain to be scaled, or are we already at the summit and everything from this point on is a pell-mell race to the base? Judging from the program for thi ...
The original St. Louis, King Louis IX of France. He makes an appearance here from time to time. The monumental statue is atop Art Hill, in front of the St. Louis Art Museum. The official name of this thing is The Apotheosis of St. Louis. What a concept. We could use an apotheosis around here ... Gonna get back out with my camera on this holiday weekend. I have two fun invitations for Monday. Someone from the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra asked me to shoot the Gypsy Caravan, their gigantic
There is a neo-Nazi convention in the area this weekend. They held a pathetic little rally under the Arch on Saturday afternoon. The police, in effect, fenced them in and kept the public at a distance. There were not many of them. Only a handful of spectators watched in the steady light rain. In the bottom picture some of them offer their reaction ... I wondered whether I should post this. In the end, I thought that we need to be reminded that this horror still exists in our city and country.
Next week, the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra is in New York, showing Gotham how good we got it. This weekend, the SLSO offers two sneak peeks at the Carnegie Hall performances, which feature a heady blend of the spiritual and the cosmic. Richard Wagner's "Good Friday Music" from Act III of ...
